Business English: Video – exchanging information on the phone

Have you ever had trouble understanding someone when they tell you their name over the phone?

It can be difficult to catch names of people, places or companies.

When this happens, take these 3 steps:

  1. Calmly ask the other person to spell the name
  2. Always check, and double check if necessary!
  3. If you have trouble catching which letter the person is saying, check by using a word which begins with that letter. For example ‘Is that M for “mother” or N for “November” ‘?

In this video I give some useful phrases for doing these 3 steps.
