Business English: Video – communication problems on the phone

Business English – communication problems on the phone

Have you ever spoken on the phone in a foreign language?

It can be challenging, but if you learn some common phrases it can become a lot easier.

In this video I explain how to deal smoothly with these common issues:

1: A wrong number

2: The other person is speaking too quietly

3: The other person is speaking too quickly

4: The call is cut off

5: You don’t understand / don’t catch what the other person is saying

6: You don’t catch how to spell something

7: The reception is bad

外国語で電話をしたことがありますか?

難しいかもしれませんが、よく使われるフレーズを覚えれば、かなり楽になります。

このビデオでは、こうしたよくある問題にスムーズに対処する方法を説明します

1: 間違い電話

2: 相手の話し声が小さすぎる

3: 相手の話が早すぎる

4:通話が切断される

5: 相手の言っていることが理解できない/聞き取れない

6: スペルが聞き取れない 7: 電波が悪い

WORDS/PHRASES:

  • Sorry, there’s no one called XXXX here. You have the wrong number.
  • Sorry, could you speak up? I can’t hear you.
  • Sorry, could you speak a little more loudly? I can’t hear you.
  • Sorry, I didn’t catch that. Could you say that again please?
  • Sorry about that. My phone ran out of battery. As I was saying….
  • Sorry, could you say that again?
  • I didn’t catch the last word.
  • What does that word mean?
  • How do you spell XXXX?
  • Sorry, can you spell that again?
  • Is that M for mother or N for November?
  • Sorry, the line is bad. Could you say that again?
  • You’re breaking up; it must be bad reception. I’ll try moving somewhere else.
  • It looks like we got cut off. I’ll call you again soon.
